Journey of a Lifetime: a 10 Day Jordan Itinerary
Looking for a travel experience that blends adventure, history, luxury, and a pinch of Middle Eastern magic? Let’s talk Jordan—a gem in the Middle East that’ll leave you with stories for days and memories for a lifetime. Picture this: wandering through ancient ruins that whisper tales of empires past, floating effortlessly in the healing waters of the Dead Sea, and sleeping under a blanket of stars in the heart of the desert. It’s the kind of trip that not only fills your camera roll but also feeds your soul.
Jordan isn’t just another trip; it’s an experience that hits different. From the bustling streets of Amman to the quiet awe of Petra, every moment feels like a page out of a storybook. The warmth of the people is unmatched—they greet you with open arms, sharing their rich culture and history with a generosity that makes you feel like family. The food? It’s a love language all its own. Think perfectly seasoned falafel, smoky baba ghanoush, and succulent meat dishes that make you close your eyes and savor every bite.
And let’s talk about the vibes. As a Black traveler, I’m always mindful of how I’ll be received in new places. Jordan was nothing short of incredible. Locals striking up conversations make you feel a sense of community wherever you go. The culture here is super welcoming, and exploring the ancient wonders and modern gems of this country felt like stepping into a world where past and present blend seamlessly.
After my second trip here, I’m convinced: Jordan deserves at least 10 days of your life—more if you can spare it. There’s so much to see, do, and experience, and each day offers something uniquely magical. So, pack your bags, grab your passport, and get ready for an adventure that will stay with you long after you’ve left. This itinerary? It’s curated just for you, designed to help you soak up every bit of what Jordan has to offer. Let’s go!
Day 1-2: Welcome to amman
Touch down in Amman, Jordan’s lively capital, where ancient ruins meet a buzzing modern vibe. Fly in with Royal Jordanian (shoutout to those direct flights from NYC, DC, Detroit, and Chicago!) and settle into the chic W Amman hotel.
Hit up the Citadel: It’s got panoramic views and ancient vibes, plus the Temple of Hercules for your IG.
Street art tour: Roll with Underground Amman and get the scoop on the city’s colorful graffiti scene.
Foodie goals: Grab a table at Fakhreldin Restaurant for some amazing Middle Eastern eats. Or, keep it cozy at Jasmine House, and end your night with a glass of local wine at JR The Wine Experience.
Day 3: Step Back in Time in Jerash
A quick drive north takes you to Jerash, a Roman city so well-preserved you’ll feel like you’re on the set of Gladiator.
Must-do: Stroll through the Archaeological Site of Jerash’s ancient streets, amphitheaters, and temples.
Get hands-on at Dar Ne’meh: Learn traditional crafts and enjoy a home-cooked Jordanian meal.
Bonus stop: Swing by Ajloun Castle for epic valley views and medieval vibes.
Day 4: Mosaic Magic in Madaba
Time to slow things down in Madaba, aka the City of Mosaics. Famous for its Byzantine art, this place is a spiritual and visual treat.
Don’t miss Mount Nebo: They say Moses saw the Promised Land from here. The views? Unreal.
Food stop: Carob House serves farm-to-table goodness with flavors that’ll have you licking the plate.
Day 5-6: Petra, the OG Wonder
You’ve seen the pics, but trust me—nothing prepares you for the real thing. Welcome to Petra, where the Nabateans flexed their architectural skills by carving an entire city into rose-red cliffs. Check in at Mövenpick Petra and get ready to explore.
Top spots: The Treasury (Al-Khazneh), Monastery (Ad-Deir), and the winding Siq canyon.
Night vibes: Experience Petra by Night—the Treasury lit up with candles and Bedouin music? Goosebumps!
DIY dining: Head to Petra Kitchen to cook up a Jordanian feast with local chefs.
Day 7-8: Wadi Rum—Mars, But Make It Jordan
Next stop: Wadi Rum, a desert so otherworldly it’s been a stand-in for Mars in Hollywood. Stay in style at Wadi Rum UFO Luxotel—yes, it looks like a spaceship.
Adventure awaits: Hop on a 4x4, ride camels, or try sandboarding.
Dine under the desert sun: Let Rum Mirage Events set you up with an unforgettable outdoor dinner.
Bucket-list alert: Take a sunrise hot air balloon ride with Balloons Over Rum. The view? Life-changing.
Day 9: Chill Mode in Aqaba
After all that desert heat, cool off in Aqaba, Jordan’s beachy getaway on the Red Sea. Stay at the luxe Kempinski Aqaba and get ready to dive in—literally.
Water fun: Book a boat day with Sea Guard Yasmena and snorkel through vibrant coral reefs. Not a swimmer? No problem! A lazy boat ride is just as dreamy.
Day 10: Float Your Worries Away at the Dead Sea
Wrap up your trip at the iconic Dead Sea, Earth’s lowest point and natural spa. Check into the serene Dead Sea Marriott Resort & Spa and let those healing vibes wash over you.
Float like royalty: The mineral-rich waters will keep you effortlessly buoyant. Slather on that black mud for a free spa treatment that’ll leave your skin glowing.
Spiritual stop: Visit Bethany Beyond Jordan, the baptism site of Jesus, and dip your toes in the Jordan River.
